Susan studied fine art at the
Guildford School of Art and Kent Institute of Art & Design. As well as
painting and running creative art groups she has worked as a health visitor and
counsellor for many years. Her work within the community has included arts
projects with womens refuge and social inclusion projects sponsored by the
government. She was guest editor of the quarterly poetry journal Community of Poets and a collection
of her own poetry was published in 2004. She is primarily a painter and her current
work focuses on relationships and family. Being half Scottish she is also interested in Celtic traditions and
artwork. Her work, while being mostly based in traditional media, is both
vibrant and contemporary. She is particulary drawn to the work of Paula Rego
and Edward Hopper as both hint at the tensions beneath the surface of
relationships.
Philip is a psychologist, poet and
artist. He studied fine art at Dartington College of Arts and Kent Institute of
Art & Design. He worked creatively as a lecturer and organisation
psychologist for many years in the UK, Chile and Hungary and was editor of the
quarterly poetry journal Community of
Poets for seven years. His own poetry has appeared in various
publications ranging from the literary magazine Connections to the journal of Management Education and Development. He works in subject
sensitive media, often incorporating sound and text and seeks out opportunities
for collaborative projects. He is passionate about the hand-sewn pamphlet and artists book; the making of these being part of his creative
process. He is drawn to Arte Povera with
its use of commonplace materials and the poetic associations which cling to
objects.
